Branč (hrádok)
Slovakia
About
The vanished medieval earthwork of Branč, dating from the 12th to the 15th century, survives today only as a gentle rise in the fields northwest of the village.
The Branč fortlet is one of Slovakia's vanished medieval strongholds. Its earliest written mention dates to 1241, when it was recorded as a tower earthwork. The site was defended by ditches that were in use from the 12th to the 15th century.
Very little is visible above ground today. In the fields lying to the northwest of the village of Branč, in an area known as Arkuš, a subtle undulation in the landscape is all that remains — a quiet but genuine trace of the fortification that once stood here.
