Braničev is a ruined medieval guard castle whose remnants still stand to the northwest of the cadastral territory of the village of Bačkov in the Trebišov District, within the Košice Region of Slovakia. In historical sources, the castle is also referred to by its Latin name castrum Purustyan, as well as by the variants Parušťan or Purustyan.
Although only scattered ruins survive from the original structure, the site offers a fascinating glimpse into medieval fortification architecture in this part of eastern Slovakia. The castle served a defensive and surveillance purpose, and its elevated position allowed it to oversee the surrounding landscape. Today, Braničev attracts visitors with an interest in history and the romance of ruined castles.
