About

Budatín Castle, originally a lowland fortress at the confluence of the Kysuca and Váh rivers, is today a historic landmark in the Budatín district of Žilina and home to the Považie Museum.

Budatín Castle is one of the most important historical monuments in the Žilina Basin. It was originally built as a lowland castle at the strategically advantageous confluence of the Kysuca and Váh rivers, which provided natural protection and control over important trade routes. Today it stands within the urban area of Žilina, in the district known as Budatín.

Over its long history, the castle underwent numerous construction phases and renovations that gradually transformed its original medieval character. The result is a picturesque architectural complex that combines elements from several different stylistic periods. The castle now houses an exhibition of the Považie Museum, offering visitors a fascinating insight into the rich history of both the region and the castle itself.
