About
The ruins of Bukovina Castle near Hostim in the Znojmo district date back to the early 14th century and are protected as a cultural monument.
The ruins of Bukovina Castle are located in the village of Hostim in the Znojmo district of South Moravia. The castle was founded at the end of the first quarter of the 14th century and served as the noble residence of the lords of Bukovina, from whom it takes its name.
After the family died out, ownership passed to Jan Vajtmilnar of Žerotice, and in 1464 the castle was acquired by the Bítov branch of the Lichtenburg family. By that time, however, it appears the fortress had already been abandoned and left to decay.
Today only modest remnants of the perimeter walls survive, quietly bearing witness to the site's medieval past. The ruin is a protected cultural monument, standing as a testament to the rich heritage of Moravian castle architecture.
