About
Červený Kameň is a medieval castle perched on a quartzite crag in the Little Carpathians near the village of Častá, now one of the most visited museums in Slovakia.
Červený Kameň is one of the best-preserved castle complexes in Slovakia. It stands on a quartzite rocky promontory in the heart of the Little Carpathians, close to the picturesque village of Častá, located west of Trnava. The castle is surrounded by dense Carpathian forests, which lend the entire site a mysterious and romantic character.
The castle dates back to the Middle Ages and underwent extensive reconstructions over the centuries, eventually taking the form of a grand Renaissance residence. It served primarily as a warehouse for the wealthy Fugger merchant family and later passed into the hands of the noble Pálffy family, who inhabited it for several centuries. Today the castle is open to the public as a museum and attracts thousands of visitors from across Slovakia and abroad every year.
