About
The main surviving remnant of Frýdberk Castle in Žulová is its medieval bergfried, which was repurposed as a church tower and is now a protected cultural monument of the Czech Republic.
Frýdberk Castle, also known by the name Žulová, was a Silesian stronghold situated in the town that today bears the name Žulová. Like many medieval fortifications, it has largely disappeared over the centuries, yet one remarkable trace of its existence survives to this day. The most prominent remnant is the bergfried – a tall defensive tower that once formed the heart of the castle's defences.
Over time, this sturdy tower was ingeniously incorporated into the local church, where it continues to serve as the bell tower. This rare combination of military and ecclesiastical architecture gives the site a distinctive character that sets it apart from other historical landmarks in the region. Both the church and the former castle tower are protected as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic, reflecting their enduring historical and architectural significance.
