About

Katarínka is a scenic early Baroque Franciscan monastery ruin nestled in the forests of the Little Carpathians near the village of Dechtice, north of Trnava.

Hidden among the forested hills of the Little Carpathians, on the cadastral territory of the village of Dechtice north of Trnava, lie the picturesque ruins of a monastery complex dedicated to Saint Catherine of Alexandria. This remarkable site stands as one of the finest surviving examples of early Baroque architecture in Slovakia.

The monastery was originally administered by the Franciscan order and, during its heyday, served as an important spiritual centre for the surrounding region. Today, its crumbling walls draped in lush vegetation draw history enthusiasts, admirers of romantic ruins, and hikers seeking an extraordinary excursion into nature.

The site is accessible on foot via hiking trails and offers a truly unique atmosphere where centuries of history blend seamlessly with the untamed beauty of the Carpathian forests. A visit to Katarínka, as it is affectionately known by locals, is an unforgettable experience for anyone captivated by mysterious and historically significant places.
