About
Remains of a medieval tower on the rocky hill of Hrádok (Bašta) in the village of Podhradie, east of Martin.
On a rocky outcrop known as Hrádok, or alternatively Bašta, located directly within the village of Podhradie near Martin, lie the remnants of a medieval fortlet. All that survives today of what was once a sturdy fortified seat are the crumbling walls of the original tower, standing as silent witnesses to a long-forgotten chapter of local history.
Despite their modest condition, these ruins offer visitors an intriguing glimpse into medieval defensive architecture. The rocky elevation provided a natural strategic advantage, which is precisely why this spot was chosen for the construction of the fortlet. Today the outcrop forms part of the village of Podhradie, situated on the eastern edge of the town of Martin.
