About

Rajecký hrad is a ruin perched on a spur north of Dubová hill in the cadastral area of Jasenové village, with only modest stone masonry remains uncovered by archaeological investigation.

Rajecký hrad, also known simply as Rajec, survives today only as ruins hidden within the cadastral territory of the village of Jasenové. The remains stand on a spur north of Dubová hill, at an elevation of approximately 660 metres above sea level. All that has been preserved of the original structure is a fragment of stone masonry uncovered through archaeological survey, along with traces of an embankment suggesting a relatively modest fortification.

The history of research into the castle's location is equally interesting. For a long time, scholars assumed the castle had stood on the southern slopes of Dubová hill towards Malá Čierna, or perhaps on islands formed by an old course of the Rajčanka river. Furthermore, before archaeologists discovered the stone masonry, many experts believed the site might have been a prehistoric hillfort rather than a medieval castle.
