About
Rákoš is a Gothic castle ruin located north of the village of Rákoš in the Revúca District, historically part of Gemer County.
The ruins of Rákoš Castle rise to the north of the village sharing its name, in the Revúca District, at a site locally known as Zámčok or Zámček. This area historically belonged to Gemer County, and over the centuries the castle appeared in records under several different names, including Rakoswar, Kövi, and Kovi-Kameňany.
From an architectural standpoint, Rákoš is a Gothic castle whose layout reflects the characteristic features of a medieval fortified residence. Although only ruins remain today, the site still stands as a compelling testament to medieval castle architecture in the Gemer region.
