About
The Šiance locality north of Slovenské Pravno conceals the modest remains of a medieval castle on the border between the Turiec Basin and the Žiar Mountains.
On the northern edge of the village of Slovenské Pravno, in a place known as Šiance, lie the quiet remnants of a vanished medieval castle. This site sits in the southern part of the Turiec Basin, where the eastern slopes of the Žiar Mountains gradually give way to the fertile lowlands below.
All that remains of the former castle today are fragments of its perimeter walls, modestly concealed within the surrounding woodland. Despite these humble traces, the site offers a fascinating glimpse into the medieval settlement history of the Turiec region and draws visitors with an interest in history and heritage.
Thanks to its position on the boundary between the mountains and the basin, the area around Šiance is exceptionally scenic. A visit to the castle ruins pairs well with a pleasant walk through nature, and the views over the Turiec Basin reward every visitor who makes the journey.
