About
Svrčov is a protected medieval castle ruin perched on a rocky spur above the River Bečva near the town of Hranice in the Přerov District.
The ruins of Svrčov Castle stand on a prominent rocky spur within the municipal boundaries of Hranice, in the Přerov District of the Czech Republic. The site is naturally defended by the River Bečva flowing far below, while the railway line connecting Hranice with Valašské Meziříčí now passes directly beneath the hill, a reminder of how dramatically the landscape has changed over the centuries.
Although only fragmentary remains of the original fortress have survived to the present day, they still speak to the strategic importance this elevated position once held in the medieval period. The ruins are listed as a protected cultural monument under Czech heritage law, ensuring their preservation for future generations. The site offers visitors a tangible glimpse into the medieval history of the Moravian borderlands.
