About
Zlonice Castle is a medieval stronghold remodelled in the Renaissance style, located in the Kladno district and protected as a cultural monument since 1978.
Zlonice Castle, also known as Štáf, is located in the small market town of Zlonice in the Kladno district of the Czech Republic. The site's origins likely date back to the fourteenth century, when a royal castle is believed to have stood here, guarding the surrounding countryside.
The building underwent a major transformation in 1560, when Václav Valkoun of Adlar commissioned its conversion into a Renaissance château. The redesigned structure reflected the refined architectural tastes of the period and gave the building the elegant character it retains to this day.
Over the following centuries, the castle was gradually adapted for more practical uses and today houses residential apartments and offices. Recognising its enduring historical and architectural significance, Czech heritage authorities granted the castle protected cultural monument status in 1978.
