About

Zvolen Castle is a well-preserved Gothic structure with a Renaissance superstructure, rising above the Slatina stream in the very heart of the city of Zvolen.

Zvolen Castle ranks among the best-preserved castle structures in Slovakia. It originated as a Gothic fortress and was later extended with a distinctive Renaissance superstructure, giving it the characteristic appearance it retains to this day. The castle stands on an elevated terrace in the middle of the Zvolen Basin, offering sweeping views of the surrounding hilly landscape.

What makes this monument particularly special is its location right in the centre of Zvolen, just a short distance from the Slatina stream. This makes the castle an unmissable landmark of the town while also keeping it easily accessible to visitors. Today it serves as a cultural centre and museum, where guests can explore historical collections and admire architecture that has stood the test of centuries.
