About CASTLEO
CASTLEO is an independent guide to the castles, chateaux, ruins and manor houses of Slovakia and Czechia. Our goal is to bring verified, clear and practical trip-planning information together in one place — a map, opening hours, admission, accessibility and photos.
Where our data comes from
We build on open, publicly available sources and add our own editorial work:
- Wikipedia — historical and factual text (CC BY-SA licence).
- Wikimedia Commons — photos of the monuments (free licences with attribution).
- Wikidata — entity identifiers and core facts (location, type, links).
- OpenStreetMap — part of the opening hours and accessibility (© OpenStreetMap contributors, ODbL licence).
Quality & updates
Descriptions are written and translated editorially (SK/EN/DE); monuments without enough data are kept out of the index. If you spot an error or can add to a monument, every profile has a “Report” and “Add information” button — we process submissions by hand.
