About
A restored anti-Ottoman bastion in Štiavnické Bane, once part of the Windschacht fortification system, located approximately 3 km southwest of Banská Štiavnica.
In the picturesque heart of the Štiavnica Hills, just under three kilometres southwest of Banská Štiavnica, stands a historic bastion in the village of Štiavnické Bane. This structure once formed an integral part of the extensive Windschacht fortification system, which was built to protect the local population against Ottoman raids.
The bastion underwent a thorough restoration in the past, ensuring its preservation for future generations. Today it serves not only as a fascinating historical monument but also as a vivid reminder of the turbulent era when Ottoman forces threatened the whole of central Slovakia, making the fortification of towns and villages a matter of survival.
