About

Bzovík is the ruin of a Gothic-Renaissance anti-Ottoman fortress and former Premonstratensian monastery located in the village of Bzovík near Krupina on the Krupina Plain.

In the village of Bzovík, situated near the town of Krupina on the Krupina Plain, stands an impressive ruin of a Gothic-Renaissance fortress. This site ranks among the most remarkable historical monuments of the Bzovík Hills and draws numerous visitors each year who are interested in the medieval history of Slovakia.

The fortress has a rich and fascinating past – it originally served as a Premonstratensian monastery before being transformed into a powerful defensive stronghold built to withstand Ottoman raids. This conversion left a lasting architectural imprint on the structure, and visitors can still observe the interplay of Gothic and Renaissance styles in its surviving walls.

Today, the ruins of Bzovík stand as a compelling testament to the turbulent era of the Ottoman wars on Slovak territory. A visit to this site offers not only a glimpse of the preserved fortifications but also a breathtaking view of the surrounding landscape of the Krupina Plain.
