Gýmeš is a Gothic castle ruin perched on a quartzite summit of the Tríbeč mountains, overlooking the village of Jelenec near Nitra.
The castle of Gýmeš stands on a quartzite peak of the Tríbeč mountain range near Nitra, rising directly above the small village of Jelenec. Its origins date back to the Gothic period, and over the centuries it underwent several reconstructions. Today it survives as a picturesque ruin that still manages to leave a striking impression on visitors.
From the remaining castle walls, there are fine views over the surrounding landscape of the Danubian Lowland and the Tríbeč hills. The site is a popular destination for hikers and history enthusiasts, who reach it via trails leading up from Jelenec. The ruins of Gýmeš rank among the most distinctive landmarks of this part of western Slovakia.
