About
The ruins of Jelšava Castle are situated on the wooded hill of Starý hrad in the Železník foothills of the Revúca Highlands, close to the town of Jelšava.
Hidden on a wooded hill known as Starý hrad, within the Železník foothills of the Revúca Highlands, lie the remains of the medieval castle of Jelšava. Towering above the town of the same name, its elevated position once provided a significant strategic advantage for controlling the surrounding region.
Only fragments of the original perimeter walls have survived, gradually being reclaimed by the dense forest. Despite the modest ruins, the site retains an unmistakable atmosphere and draws history enthusiasts as well as nature lovers, who often combine the climb to the hilltop with a leisurely walk through the surrounding countryside.
