About
Remains of a fortified hillfort with walls and ramparts on a steep hill of the Pohronský Inovec range, about 10 km west of Nová Baňa.
On the steep slopes of the Pohronský Inovec mountain range, close to its highest peak Veľký Inovec, lie the remnants of an ancient fortified hillfort. This archaeological site is located approximately ten kilometres west of Nová Baňa, above the small settlements of Stará Huta and Bukovina, and its position on a sharply rising hill reflects the clear strategic thinking of its long-ago builders.
The site still preserves the remains of perimeter walls and earthen ramparts, which — despite the passage of centuries — continue to bear witness to the scale and ingenuity of the original fortifications. The place attracts not only enthusiasts of history and archaeology, but also hikers who are rewarded with impressive views across the surrounding Pohronie landscape.
