About
Nový zámok is an anti-Ottoman watchtower fortress and one of the most prominent landmarks of the historic town of Banská Štiavnica in the Štiavnica Hills.
Nový zámok (New Castle) is one of the most striking architectural landmarks of Banská Štiavnica, a historic city nestled in the scenic Štiavnica Hills. The fortress was built primarily as a defensive structure against Ottoman raids that threatened Central European territories during the 16th and 17th centuries.
Thanks to its strategic position on an elevated hilltop, the castle served as a watchtower and observation point from which the movements of enemy forces could be monitored across a wide area. Today, Nový zámok stands as an important cultural monument and a popular tourist attraction, offering visitors a vivid glimpse into the turbulent military history of the region.
