About

Teplica Castle is a medieval ruin perched on a forested andesite hill above the village of Sklené Teplice in the northern Štiavnica Hills.

Teplica Castle stands on a forested andesite hill in the northern part of the Štiavnica Hills mountain range. Its ruins quietly watch over the picturesque village of Sklené Teplice below, a place well known for its natural thermal springs.

Only modest remains of the original castle structures have survived, gradually being reclaimed by the dense surrounding forest. Despite this, the site attracts history enthusiasts and hikers alike, who are rewarded for the climb with beautiful views across the surrounding landscape. The andesite bedrock provided a solid foundation for the castle hill, though it also complicates any archaeological investigation of the site.

Teplica Castle is among the lesser-explored medieval fortifications in Slovakia. Its history remains largely shrouded in mystery, which only adds to the romantic atmosphere of this hidden gem nestled within the natural beauty of the Štiavnica Hills.
