About
The manor house in Žiar nad Hronom is a historic building featuring Renaissance-Baroque and Classicist elements, erected on medieval foundations.
In the heart of the Žiar Basin, in the centre of the town of Žiar nad Hronom along the middle reaches of the Hron River, stands a manor house with a rich architectural history. Its foundations date back to the Middle Ages, and over the centuries it underwent significant transformations — first acquiring a Renaissance-Baroque character, and later being remodelled in the Classicist style.
Originally the manor also served a defensive purpose, as evidenced by its early fortifications. Successive architectural alterations gradually transformed it into a prestigious noble residence, which to this day remains a prominent landmark of the town and a reminder of its distinguished past.
