About
The Renaissance manor house in Borša, built on the site of a medieval water castle, is the birthplace of Francis II Rákóczi.
On the southern edge of the village of Borša stands a Renaissance manor house surrounded by an expansive park. This impressive structure was built on the foundations of an original medieval water castle that once dominated the area in earlier centuries. The manor thus carries within it the memory of several historical eras and forms a striking landmark of the entire region.
The site is inseparably linked with the name of Francis II Rákóczi, one of the most significant figures in Hungarian history. It was here, in this very manor, that the leader of the anti-Habsburg uprising was born — a legacy that continues to resonate with many visitors today. Borša therefore represents not only an architecturally valuable destination, but also a place of profound historical importance.
