Hrad Krásna Hôrka
Slovakia · Košický kraj
About
Krásna Hôrka is a majestic castle perched on a limestone hill above Krásnohorské Podhradie, renowned for its rich history and exceptionally well-preserved interiors.
Krásna Hôrka Castle rises proudly atop a distinctive limestone hill that stands like a solitary mound above the northern edge of the village of Krásnohorské Podhradie. Its position was no coincidence — the steep rocky slopes provided medieval defenders with natural protection and commanding views across the surrounding landscape.
The castle's history is closely intertwined with the Andrássy family, who managed and gradually rebuilt it over several centuries. Thanks to their careful stewardship, a remarkable number of original furnishings, armories, and works of art have survived, making Krásna Hôrka one of the best-preserved castles in Slovakia.
Today the castle operates as a museum that draws thousands of visitors each year, captivated by its rich history and imposing architecture. The nearby Andrássy family mausoleum adds yet another fascinating historical dimension to any visit.
