Zámok Chmeľov
Slovakia · Prešovský kraj
About
The manor house in Chmeľov was most likely built on the site of a medieval crusader castle in the Beskid foothills.
The village of Chmeľov lies in the foothills of the Beskids, nestled at the base of Zadná hora near the Čepcov saddle. This picturesque corner of north-eastern Slovakia is home to a notable architectural landmark – a manor house that has survived to the present day.
The manor was in all likelihood constructed on the very site where a castle once belonging to the Knights of the Cross, a medieval religious-military order, had previously stood. This historical layer lends the location a distinctive genius loci and suggests that the strategic position of this place attracted human settlement long before the noble residence itself was ever built.
