About
Čičva is a ruined medieval castle from the 13th century, situated on a hilltop in the Beskyd Foothills above the village of Sedliská.
Čičva Castle is one of the oldest medieval fortifications in eastern Slovakia, with its origins dating back to the 13th century. It was built on a strategically advantageous hilltop in the Beskyd Foothills region, specifically in the Mernícka Hills sub-unit. From this elevated position, the castle once offered an excellent view of the surrounding landscape and served an important defensive and administrative role in the region.
Today, the castle stands as a picturesque ruin rising above the village of Sedliská, more precisely above its local district of Podčičva. The preserved remnants of its walls serve as a silent testimony to the former glory and power that this fortification once represented. Visitors who make their way to the ruins can admire not only the historical remains but also the beautiful natural scenery of the surrounding hilly countryside.
