About

The Csonkavár ruin near Kráľovský Chlmec is a medieval noble residence perched on a hill at the eastern foot of the Chlmec Hills.

Csonkavár is a medieval ruin situated on a hillock at the eastern edge of the Chlmec Hills, right on the outskirts of the town of Kráľovský Chlmec. Archaeological and historical research suggests that it was not a typical castle in the traditional sense, but rather a noble manor house serving the local landowners.

Its elevated position provided natural protection and commanding views over the surrounding landscape. Today only ruins remain, standing as a fascinating testament to the medieval settlement of this part of the Zemplín region and attracting history enthusiasts and visitors passing through Kráľovský Chlmec.
