About
Hanigovský hrad is a picturesque ruin perched on a limestone hill at the edge of the Čergov range, approximately 10 km northwest of Sabinov.
Hanigovský hrad rises atop a limestone hill at the edge of the Čergov mountain range, commanding the landscape northwest of Sabinov. Its position on a naturally protected rocky spur made it a strategically significant point in this part of the historic Šariš region. Today the castle survives only as a ruin, yet even in this state it radiates a powerful atmosphere of bygone centuries.
Visitors are drawn here not only by history but also by the beautiful views stretching across the surrounding foothills. The site is accessible on foot and makes for a pleasant hiking destination from the Sabinov area. The preserved remnants of walls and the rugged rocky terrain combine to create an unforgettable image of a forgotten medieval stronghold.
