About
The fortified Renaissance manor house in Hertník stands on the site of an earlier small castle, at the junction of the Čergov range and the Ondava Highlands south of Bardejov.
Hertník is a picturesque village situated at the boundary of the Čergov mountain range and the Ondava Highlands, close to the southern outskirts of Bardejov. It is here that one of the remarkable examples of a Renaissance fortified manor house in northeastern Slovakia can be found.
The manor house was not built on an empty site – it was constructed on the location of an older small castle, which testifies to the long history of settlement and strategic use of this place. The Renaissance reconstruction gave it a distinctive appearance that it has partially retained to this day.
