About
The Renaissance-Baroque château in Humenné, built on the site of a medieval water castle, now hosts the Vihorlat Museum and is surrounded by a beautiful English-style park.
The château in Humenné ranks among the most important noble residences in north-eastern Slovakia. It was created by rebuilding a medieval water castle and, during the course of the 17th century, acquired its distinctive Renaissance-Baroque appearance. The building dominates the historic town centre and its architecture testifies to the former power and influence of the noble families who once resided here.
Today the château houses the Vihorlat Museum, where visitors can explore rich collections documenting the history and culture of the region. The complex is complemented by an expansive English-style park, which offers a pleasant setting for walks and relaxation in the heart of the city. The combination of valuable architecture, museum exhibitions and lush greenery makes the château a popular destination for tourists and locals alike.
