About
Jasov Monastery is a remarkable late Baroque complex with a church in the village of Jasov, built on the site of a medieval fortified Premonstratensian monastery.
The Jasov Monastery is one of the most significant late Baroque architectural ensembles in Slovakia. It is situated in the picturesque surroundings of the village of Jasov, and its history stretches deep into the Middle Ages, when a fortified Premonstratensian monastery originally stood on this site.
The current appearance of the complex dates from the 18th century, when the older structure was replaced by a grand late Baroque building. The ensemble includes not only an extensive monastery building but also a magnificent church, whose decoration and architecture rank it among the finest examples of its era.
The monastery remains inhabited to this day and continues to serve its original purpose, making it a living centre of spiritual life. Visitors can admire well-preserved frescoes, richly decorated interiors, and the tranquil atmosphere that has pervaded this extraordinary complex for centuries.
