Slovakia · Prešovský kraj
About
The ruins of Kamenica Castle perch on a limestone crag in the Čergov mountain range, northwest of the town of Sabinov.
To the northwest of Sabinov, rising above the quiet village of Kamenica, the ruins of a medieval castle stand atop a limestone crag in the Čergov mountain range. The stronghold's commanding position on the rocky outcrop once gave its garrison an excellent view of the surrounding region and allowed control over important routes through this part of Slovakia.
Today the castle survives only as a ruin, yet despite the ravages of time it continues to impress visitors with its dramatic silhouette set against the forested slopes of the Čergov hills. The hike up to the remains rewards travellers not only with a glimpse of the historical site but also with a beautiful panorama of the surrounding landscape.
