About

Plaveč Castle is a scenic ruin perched on a hilltop in the Spiš–Šariš borderland, overlooking the village of Plaveč – Podzámok quarter and the Poprad River valley.

Plaveč Castle rises as a romantic ruin atop a hill in the Spiš–Šariš borderland, commanding sweeping views over the valley of the Poprad River. It overlooks the local settlement, specifically the part of the village of Plaveč known as Podzámok, which lies within the Stará Ľubovňa district.

The remaining walls stand as silent witnesses to the rich history of this frontier region. The strategically chosen hilltop site once offered an excellent vantage point across the surrounding landscape and allowed control over important routes passing through the Poprad valley.

Today the castle attracts history enthusiasts and hikers alike, who appreciate the picturesque panoramas of the Spiš–Šariš highlands. A visit to the ruins rewards guests not only with a tangible sense of history but also with beautiful views of the rolling hills and the river valley below.
