About
Richnavský hrad is a medieval castle ruin above the village of Richnava on the eastern edge of the Hornád Basin, southwest of Prešov.
The ruins of Richnavský hrad rise above the village of Richnava on the eastern edge of the Hornád Basin, southwest of Prešov. Perched on a rocky spur, the castle once commanded an excellent view over the surrounding countryside and the roads passing through the region. It ranked among the notable fortified seats of this area, and its history is closely intertwined with the story of the Spiš region and its neighbouring estates.
Today only remnants of the once-proud fortress survive, yet even these weathered walls speak of its former significance. Visitors willing to make the climb to the ruins are rewarded not only with a glimpse of medieval stonework but also with sweeping views across the landscape below. Richnavský hrad is therefore a rewarding destination for anyone with a passion for castle history and the romance of Slovakia's medieval heritage.
