About
On the hill above the village of Zemplín, where a castle once rose on the site of an earlier hillfort, only minimal wall remnants and two churches stand today.
Zemplín Castle once stood on a strategically positioned hill above the village of the same name, on a site previously occupied by an older hillfort settlement. This elevated location offered commanding views of the surrounding landscape and provided natural defensive advantages. Today, only minimal remnants of the castle walls have survived, serving as silent witnesses to the former significance of this place.
The hilltop is now defined primarily by two churches, which over time replaced the castle as the dominant features of the site. Despite the modest physical remains, the location retains a strong sense of history and remains an appealing destination for those interested in medieval heritage and the early history of the region.
