About
Kamenec is the site of a former medieval castle perched above popular climbing rocks near Prievidza, at the foot of the Vtáčnik mountains.
Kamenec is a site with a rich history stretching back to prehistoric times. Originally, a hillfort stood here, which was later replaced by a medieval castle. The location sits in a picturesque setting above cliffs popular among rock climbers, in an area known as Hrádok.
Hrádok lies at the foothills of the Vtáčnik mountain range, close to the town of Prievidza. This position gave the fortification a strategic advantage and commanding views of the surrounding landscape. Today, Kamenec represents an attractive destination for enthusiasts of both history and nature exploring this part of central Slovakia.
